gui4cbm4win
...is a graphical front-end to cbm4win
by Spiro Trikaliotis, which allows you to read/write to real serial Commodore
floppy drives (1541, 1571, etc) under Windows 2000 or XP.
It gives you access to most (but not all) of the features of the cbm4win
command-line tools, with an easy to use point-and-click interface.

Features:
- Copy individual or multiple files between the Commodore floppy drive and
the PC's hard drive.
Tip: Use SHIFT or CTRL to select
multiple files.
- Make D64 images of real disks to email, archive, or use with the VICE
emulator.
- Transfer D64 images onto disks for use on
your real Commodore.
- Format Commodore floppies fast!
Note: Make sure you have
the very latest version of cbm4win. Version 0.1.0 had a problem with cbmformat.
- Rename/Scratch files on Commodore disks.
- Read the Commodore drive error channel.
Limitations:
- No editing of D64 images is provided. Use Mole64,
D64 Editor, Star
Commander (DOS), or Win1541
for that.
Tip: If you associate the .d64
extension with one of these tools, or VICE, you can click the
"Run/View" button to automatically launch that program.
- Disk/file names are not checked for validity for format/rename commands.
- ASCII/PETSCII translation is crude at best, but functional.
Downloads:
Installation:
Simply unzip and copy gui4cbm4win.exe to your cbm4win\exe
directory, after installing and testing cbm4win. Double-click to
run, and check your cable and startup path settings.
Cables:
- Any of the cables supported by cbm4win work fine with the GUI as
well. This includes the XA1541, XM1541, XAP1541 or XMP1541, but not
the XE1541!
- The common XE1541 cable may
be converted to an XM1541 by
simply swapping signals 5 ands 6 on the DIN (Commodore) end. Better
yet, an XE1541 to XM1541 adaptor that swaps these signals can easily be
made.
