Miscellaneous Tech Notes
Impulse Tracker and Windows 2000
Many of my old tracks (all of Exorage, in fact) were made in Impulse Tracker. (I've since switched to Fruity Loops.) I wanted to upgrade to Windows 2000 for the extra stability (especially onstage), however, IT technically doesn't work in Win2K.
Solution: VDMSound
emulates a Sound Blaster (16/Pro) in DOS boxes in Windows 2000.
Works very well for me, your mileage may vary.
MIDI with a Palm Pilot (Palm Pilot Kaos Pad)
Kaos Pads are extremely cool, but expensive.
You can approximate their X/Y MIDI capabilities on a Palm Pilot pretty easily though.
1. Hardware: For MIDI Out
only, build this.
You can buy the parts from Radio Shack for
less than $20.
For MIDI In/Out, build or buy this.
2. Software: Download (and register) Theremini.
I hope someone finds these useful. Contact me if you have any questions.
